Now About Me: - About 1910 my father, and his two brothers, John and George Fitz, visited the Palo Verde Valley and Later Filed for a homestead at Palo Verde.
Then, in 1919, all was cleared and we moved to the Valley. My father and the two
brothers drove a team of horses and a light wagon. Took them a little over a month to make the trip from Visalia. Then when he had some thing of a shelter for us, we came down by train, in July. My father met us with the wagon at Rice, California. That was the closest the train came to the Valley. I remember there were many miles of plank road out over the desert and it was very hot. My sister, Edith, and I went to a little adobe school, one room for all grades. In 1918 my sister died during the enfluenza epedemic. We went to school in Blythe, it was during her first year of High School and my second year. Later on, I went to Heralds Business College, in Riverside, California. I worked in a bank, then married in 1920, and moved to San Diego, Where our daughter, Esther, was born. Harry was basically a carpenter and in his later years, he became an Inspector, and Superintendant of Constuction for the State Department of Public Schools. He was finally able to retire at the age of 69, and died at the age of 69. During World War II he went back into the service - this time in the Merchant Marines as a Carpenter's Mate.During the WWII years, I went to the State College in Fresno and later became a Legal Secretary and worked at that until I retired in 1962. Then we both traveled for a couple of years - to Europe one year, and then to the South Pacific. Then for about ten years, my daughter, Esther, and I traveled over most of the rest of the world. Toward the end of our travels we began to take Esther's grandchildren Laura and Rick Mayfield. Esther died in 1990, and we have not traveled since that time. Laura recently married a young man from New York, and that is where they have been this last Christmas.I lived in a retirement home in Fresno just before I moved up here, to Stockton, to be near my granddaughter, Denise. Its a nice place to live for me. My sister in law, 5 years older that I, lived with us for may years, and when I had a heart attack, my dayghter thought it best that we both move where we would have less respondsibilityl She died 3 years ago, and I am now chugging along by myself and getting along fine up here.I had a happy life, never rich, but then not poor either. My family has done well and are all happy as of this writing. My great granddaughter, with her father, are top horse trainers. Denise was a beautiful horsewoman and won many blue ribbons, her specialty was hunters and jumpers. Also, that is what Laura and her father, Larry Mayfield, teach their students. Their stables are at Menlo Park. They buy many of their horses in Belgium and they seem to refer to them as "Warm Bloods".
